Spice up your meal with Medicinal Tasmanian Mountain Pepperberry.
Native pepperberry [Tasmannia lanceolata, belongs to the family of Winteraceae grows at highland areas in Tasmania (Palawa Nation) and southeastern Australia (Boonwurrung, Woiworung, Jaitmatang, Bidwell, Yuin, Ngarigo Nations). As a native shrub tree, the fruit is black (dark purple) in colour and contains many tiny black seeds.
Native pepperberry has been ethnopharmacologically used as an ailment to treat stomach discomfort, and as an antifungal for skin diseases by Indigenous people, and it has scientifically proven to inhibit in vitro platelet aggregation, microbial activity, as well as antioxidant capacity.
Sesquiterpene polygodial, a major phytoconstituent which is mostly found in the oil of native pepperberry makes the spicy and pungent flavour. Additionally, other major secondary metabolites like guaiol, calamenene, hexacosanal, drimenol and linalool were also reported to possess antimicrobial properties.
Boost the nutritive value your meal by using Tasmania Mountain Pepperberry in place of regular black pepper.
