Frequently asked questions
Why is this starter more expensive than other brands?
Most commercial starters are 90%+ filler — maltodextrin, dextrose, or lactose — making pure probiotic content tiny despite the low price. This culture is 100% pure live bacteria with two clinically validated strains at meaningful CFU counts. When you factor in re-culturing up to 6 times per sachet, the cost per litre becomes excellent.
Can I use it without a yoghurt maker?
The culture requires a stable fermentation temperature at 42°C. A dedicated yoghurt maker (such as the Reuter-i) is strongly recommended to maintain consistent heat. Improvised methods — such as a warm oven or insulated thermos — can work but may produce variable results.
Can I use plant-based milk?
No it is not suitable. We have a Vegan Coconut Starter culture which can be used for all nut based milk products.
How long does the sachet last?
Refrigerated: use by the best-before date on the pack. Frozen: shelf life extends to 2 years. Store frozen if you are not using immediately.
