About your teacher: Kriben Govender, is a Food Scientist, Registered Nutritionist and Founder of
Kriben holds a honours degree in Applied Science (Food Science and Technology) and is a member of the Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology and Nutrition Society of Australia.
With more than 20 years of Food industry experience in the field of Research and Development, Quality Assurance and Procurement, Kriben intimately understands the food supply chain and the interaction between diet and the gut microbiome. He has personally visited more than 100 food processing sites across the world.
Kriben is an expert in the art of making fermented foods like Kefir, Kombucha and fermented vegetable etc and was a Judge in the 2019 RASV Australia Food Awards.
Around 8 years ago, Kriben's life imploded. He was extremely depressed, overweight and lacking in energy and vibrancy. He found himself alone in an apartment, ready to end his life. A combination of workplace bullying, stress, a struggle with anxiety and depression and a collapsed marriage resulted in a sense of worthlessness. For the sake of his 3 young boys, Kriben soldiered on and discovered the importance of gut health on his mental wellbeing. He found inspiration in the work of Dr Natasha Campbell McBride through here book Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS): Natural Treatment for Autism, Dyspraxia, A.D.D., Dyslexia, A.D.H.D., Depression, Schizophrenia. He started to follow a GAPS diet, make homemade fermented foods like kefir, kombucha and sauerkraut, adopted a transcendental meditation (TM) and yoga practice, attended cognitive behaviour therapy sessions with a psychologist, learned the Meisner and Alexander acting techniques - all which helped him overcome his struggle with anxiety and depression. With this newfound knowledge, he launched Nourishme Organics to help others heal their bodies via Gut Health.
Kriben then went on to found Allele Microbiome- a company focused on bringing cutting edge metagenomic DNA based stool testing to the public. He has been greatly inspired by the work of Dr Jack Kruse, Dr Gabor Somlyai, Dr Laszlo Boros and Prof Doug Wallace which let him explore the importance of Mitochondrial Health on overall health. Recently he has introduced Australia's first direct to public urine and saliva deuterium test and is in the process of launching Low D- A Deuterium Depleted Glacial Spring Water to optimise mitochondrial function.
Kriben is available for face to face or online nutrition consulting with a particular focus on Gut and Mitochondrial optimisation at The Nourishme Organics shop in Cheltenham, Melbourne. VIC.
He is also available for speaking engagements, interviews and podcasts. Please contact us to make a booking.

I was using a recycled glass jar with lid slightly ajar for our kefir for many years, then I was pouring it through a plastic seize into big glass bowl. It worked, but this is a lot easier. I use the kefirko with the lid screwed on firmly and I love the taste and texture much better than what I was making previously. The excitement of a new product and the ease of use has meant I have now handed our kefir making over to our kids. If you don’t have the money, you can do it without the kefirko, but it is much easier for experienced kefir makers and would be excellent for beginners, less complicated!
I wasn't sure how this could possibly work but decided to take a chance, and I am so glad I did. This has surprisingly replaced a whole array of skincare products that I have been very satisfied with for a long time. My sensitive combination skin feels much less oily and reactive after spraying once in the morning after washing, and then a refreshing spray mid afternoon. I love using this instead of a deodorant and find the human, neutral and natural smell far more appealing than any deodorant. Sexy, even! I can't wait to experiment a bit more and get to know the rest of the product line. If its within your budget, I find it is easily worth the price. Please never stop stocking this.
I have ordered from this company many times now buying green banana resistant starch and I’m very happy with the quality and price. This time I ordered the hydrolysed beef collagen and I will definitely order again!
Got the order a few days later than normal, because we live out in the bush. And during the heat of summer we thought it might be dead. But no, we got a brew going and it's plugging along nicely now, pumping out the 'bucha.
We're still learning how to get the best out of it, but with the instructions it's going really well.
I have been making Kefir for a couple of years now but had to buy new grains. I purchased approximately a tablespoon and am very impressed with the flavour (I added a little lemon zest and some ginger). The kefir grains after a couple of goes has now doubled in number! Already making a litre of Kefir!
This kit is great....a bit expensive but still a great investment if your making kefir all the time like I do
I really like the two containers are glass and it’s certainly less messy with this kit... we have limited space and water due to living in a caravan so this system is perfect
I made the mistake of using lactose free milk when I first tried making kefir-be warned it doesn't work!
But since switching to organic milk, I have beautiful creamy batches of kefir and my favorite, kefir yoghurt. I accidentally bought low fat a2 milk and thought it wouldn't work, but in 24 hours, I was able to strain it into a lovely, creamy yoghurt. So happy!
I bought the kefir grains as a way to add natural probiotics into my toddler's diet but now we are both enjoying this as a tasty part of our diet every day. I sweeten the yohurt and add the kefir as is to porridge, yoghurt, milk etc. So yummy!
I bought the kefir mega kit a few weeks ago through nourishme organics.
The fresh milk kefir grains came very well packaged, with. a protective and cooling materials. I had my Kefir up and running, it's taken about two weeks for the kefer to mature and now it is thick and bubbly like lace and each ferment is delicious.
The kefir grains itself has tripled in volume of grains and it produces 500ml.of kefir every 15 hours or so (in Perth conditions). The secondary ferments works well with about 6hrs on bench and then refrigerate for another 4- 12 hours. My favourite secondary ferments are honey, banana, chai tea and garlic.
I was very impressed at how easy it is to make and the quality of kefir that the kefir grains make, would thoroughly recommend nourishme organics kefir products.
I was worried this starter wouldn’t work well when it arrived, as the postman had left it in the full sun and the freezer pack included in the packaging was hot! Despite me waiting home for it all day and them not even knocking!
BUT I put it straight in the fridge as per instructions and it worked great! Lovely, thick, creamy yoghurt. I’ve since used a tablespoon of the yoghurt to make the next batch, so I’m not needing to use a new starter each time. I’ve done this about 4 times and the last batch was a bit more runny so might use a fresh starter now. So you are getting way more than the 6 litres of yoghurt stated if you do this. I previously tried doing this with commercial bought organic yoghurt from the supermarket but it was watery straight away. Recommended.
I received amazing customer service and efficient delivery from Kriben and Channimol when I recently bought these products. I had forgotten to buy some additional products and had to add them last minute but Channimol was so accommodating, flexible and responsive to my enquiry. Such a great pleasure to deal with! I specially bought these for my mum actually. She started using the product 2 weeks ago but has not experienced any effect yet - she had spine surgery in 2016 and I bought this for her joints and leg aches and inflammation. As for me, I’ve also tried the collagen and felt I have less joint stiffness or aches than before. Will update review again in a few month’s time.
